Americans Are Naming The US States They Avoid, And Sorry If You Live There Because It's Scathing

Last week, we published an article about the states Americans say they have no interest in visiting. Needless to say, a lot more people weighed in in the comments. Here's what 14 other people had to say:

1. "Illinois HANDS DOWN. Those FOREVER corrupt bastards would tax ya for takin’ a piss if they could."

2. "Fucking Florida. I strongly believe that Florida was never meant to have residents. It’s all fucking swamp, hurricanes, storms, and bugs. The only reason anyone lives there at this point is out of spite for God, man. Oh, and air conditioning is a big factor too."

3. "Montana. I've lived here my whole life and I’m chronically bored. I feel like sometimes people forget it’s even here."

4. "Iowa. Holy help me. Driving through, it's just corn — from daylight to dark. I outta went around."

5. "The state of Kansas. I drove the entire state from east to west, and I swear it was like driving through one of those cartoons with the background that keeps repeating itself. That’s all it was."

6. "Shit always seems to go wrong for me in Ohio. It's stuff that could happen anywhere (like a U-Haul breaking down in subzero weather), but it always happens to me every time I set foot in Ohio. I can take a hint."

7. "California. Everyone living there appears to believe that they’re the center of the universe. I have worked all over California in the past, and I never intend to go back. And that was before they trashed San Francisco."

8. "There are parts of Pennsylvania that are gorgeous, but it gets very red, very evangelical, and a bit redneck once you leave the big cities. The locals call it Pennsyltucky."

9. "Minnesota. I lived there shortly for a job, and the summers are muggy with the most aggressive mosquitos (due to all the punk ass lakes), and the winters are just Mother Nature's excuse to punch you with her fist of snow and icy fury."

10. "Tennessee. It's overly hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. Most of the population consists of racists, fatphobes, and wildly religious people. As an atheist, it's almost impossible to live here without being called out on it, someone trying to preach to me about how Jesus is our savior and how good life would be if I were Christian. And then they wonder why Southerners have the reputation they do."

11. "Florida or Texas especially, but really any state currently passing laws to persecute trans people, as well as women's right to control their own bodies."

12. "Adding Utah to this list for being ultra-conservative, having weird religious ideologies, racism, and alcohol restrictions that are truly idiotic. You can have your disappearing Salt Lake and your snow."

13. "I've never been to Kentucky, but no one I know who has been there has had anything good to say about it. I have a lot of well-traveled friends and family, and Kentucky consistently ranks as their worst experience."

14. And finally, "Missouri. I went there once when my brother had a robotics competition. St. Louis was hit with a tornado, and let me tell you, the people in the lobby of my hotel got WEIRD!! 'Ooooo, this is a GOOD one!' It’s a TORNADO! WTF are you people doing gathering NEXT TO THE WINDOWS??!?!?"
