Dolphins Add QB to Roster After Tua Tagovailoa Update

The Miami Dolphins are eagerly anticipating the return of Tua Tagovailoa, but in the meantime, they’ve bolstered their quarterback depth by making a key addition to the active roster.

Tagovailoa has been sidelined since Week 2 after suffering his third documented concussion in the past two years. While there is still some uncertainty surrounding his future, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel remains optimistic, stating that he expects to see his franchise quarterback return to the field this season.

"As far as timelines go, I know he's not playing this week," McDaniel said this week. "I do expect to see him playing football in 2024, but where that is exactly, we'll let the process continue."

In addition, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that Tagovailoa intends to return to practice next week. It would open his 21-day window to return to the active roster.

While the wait on Tagovailoa continues, the Dolphins made a roster adjustment at quarterback, signing Tim Boyle from the practice squad to the active roster. Boyle, who has been called up in the past, stepped in during a previous game against the Seahawks after Skylar Thompson exited due to injury.

In that appearance, Boyle completed 7 of 13 passes for 79 yards, though Miami ultimately fell 24-3. Tyler Huntley is in line to start for 2-3 Dolphins but backup Skylar Thompson is questionable with a rib injury.
