FARRELL, Pa . (WKBN) — Election day is nearing, and some local organizations are making an effort to get Pennsylvania residents registered before the state’s deadline, Monday, Oct. 21.

“In partnership with the Mercer County NAACP, the Shenango Valley Urban League is part of the Reclaim Your Vote, which is a national campaign with the Urban League. So, we’re just getting out the vote and getting people energized to vote,” said Erin Houston, president and CEO of the Shenango Valley Urban League.

The organizations are giving residents a chance to register in person to meet the deadline and helping those who are registered update information as needed.

“They still do have time to understand the issues and do their own research. That’s the most important so you can make your own decisions that are best for you and your family,” Houston said.

Urban League is also encouraging people to make a plan. Ray Shackelford, vice president of Equitable Justice at the National Urban League, says voters should know where to vote and what to bring before election day.

“Make it a family thing. Take four or five of your friends, your family. You’d be surprised that you think somebody is going to vote and that there is an election going on. Please don’t assume. Just take the extra steps, reach out to everybody you know and be prepared,” Shackelford said.

Pennslyvania voters can register in person Monday at local election officers. Early in-person voting has also started. Absentee ballots need to be requested by 5 p.m. on Oct. 29 and they must be returned by 8 p.m. on Nov. 5.

voting is one thing, knowing and being knowledgeable about who to vote for and why you are voting for someone is a whole different thing. you should know all about politics, the games that they play, the false promises they make and be responsible and well-informed about who you are voting for.
