Thousands of San Diegans downtown and in surrounding communities were experiencing a power outage late Saturday afternoon.

Affected communities, according to an online outage map, from San Diego Gas & Electric, include areas near Balboa Park and Golden Hill.

The outage began at 4:34 p.m. SDG&E estimated that power would be restored by 7 p.m. and it appears that it was for most of those who were affected.

The outage map at 7 p.m. reflected that fewer than 100 customers, near Kettner Boulevard and F Street, still were without power. The utility offered a new estimate of 10 p.m. for their power to be restored.

Earlier, the utility said the cause of the power loss was under investigation. After 6 p.m. that was amended, but only to say that “crews have found a need to repair SDG&E equipment.”
