The Tennessee Volunteers only beat the Alabama Crimson Tide once during the Nick Saban era, the one time being in 2022 in Knoxville. History repeated itself in Week 8, as Tennessee won 24-17 at Neyland Stadium. However, Kalen DeBoer was Alabama's head coach this time around.

The Volunteers snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide in 2022 after a game-winning field goal from Chase McGrath for a historic 52-49 win.

The goalposts came down after Tennessee's massive win in that game, and campus police tried to avoid that scenario in Week 8. Tennessee campus police made a post on X urging fans not to bring down the goalposts once the game went final.

"While we are thrilled with a victory over Alabama... we would greatly appreciate the goalposts NOT leaving the stadium," the campus police said. "Please make your way out of the stadium...safely."

Unlike the 2022 edition of the "Third Saturday in October," there were not a lot of offensive fireworks in the game. The Volunteer's offense was scoreless in the first half for the third straight game and was outplayed by the Crimson Tide in total offensive yards, 172-143.

The Volunteers went into halftime down 7-0, needing a big response in the second half. Running back Dylan Sampson ended the Tennessee scoring drought in the third quarter with a two-yard touchdown run. Alabama answered on the following drive with a field goal to make it 10-7, but Sampson found the end zone again on the next drive to bring the lead to 14-10 in favor of Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide retook the lead towards the beginning of the fourth quarter thanks to a Justice Haynes rushing touchdown. Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava then threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to receiver Chris Brazzell II, making it 21-17.

The Alabama offense was stopped on the following drive before a Volunteers field goal pushed the lead to 24-17. Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe threw an interception on the team's final offensive drive, securing the win for Tennessee.

Tennessee faces the Kentucky Wildcats next on Nov. 2.
