College Football Fans Erupt Over Refs’ Shocking Overturned Call in Texas-Georgia Showdown

The college football world has an ability to explode on social media on rare occasions, and during the game between the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs, we are certainly seeing that take place.

After falling behind 23-0 in the first half, Texas scored 8 quick points in the third quarter and then had a massive interception returned to the Georgia 9-yard-line late in the quarter. However, the referees ruled it a pass interference, overturning the interception in Georgia's favor.

We saw a lot of fan reaction to the horrendous DPI call, but that wasn't even the half of it. A few minutes later, after fans had thrown beer cans onto the field, the refs got together and announced that they were overturning the DPI call, and giving the ball back to Texas.

While it may have been the right call, the way that they went about it was unprecedented, and it led to college football's social media exploding.

The Longhorns ended up scoring a touchdown a couple of plays later, making it a 23-15 game going into the fourth quarter after Quinn Ewers threw for his second score of the game.

There is still a lot of time left on the clock, and a lot of things to play out before a winner is named in this top-five matchup, but this is undoubtedly one of the strangest things we have ever seen in a college football game, and the postgame reactions to it all will be appointment viewing.
