Texas HC Steve Sarkisian Blasted for Arch Manning-Quinn Ewers Decision vs. Georgia

Following two impressive spot starts for Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, many fans called for the redshirt freshman to take over the starting job. But with Quinn Ewers leading the team to an unbeaten start and playing extremely well to begin the season, head coach Steve Sarkisian opted not to make a permanent change.

It would have been surprising if Ewers had lost his job due to injury after how he began the year. However, Sarkisian's handling of the situation with Ewers and Manning in a 30-15 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday led to plenty of confusion.

Texas trailed 20-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter when Sarkisian chose to put Manning in to replace Ewers. Not surprisingly, Manning struggled just as Ewers did in the quarter and a half leading up to that point.

The Texas head coach chose not to stick with Manning after halftime and went back to Ewers, and the entire situation brought the wrath of social media down on Sarkisian.

Former NFL quarterback and analyst Robert Griffin III was among the fans who disliked Sarkisian's decision to put Manning in when the Longhorns were trailing by 20.

One fan called out Sarkisian for making Ewers the "scapegoat" in the tough home loss to the Bulldogs.

There was also plenty of concern about how Sarkisian's decision would be received by the team and the impact it could have on Ewers.

It'll be worth watching how Texas responds after the loss to Georgia. They won't play another top-25 team until the final week of the regular season. The Longhorns will face Vanderbilt next week, followed by games against Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky before the finale against Texas A&M.
