The Vaqueros dominated all three facets of the game from start to finish, picking up the team’s first conference victory of the season. “It’s what every coach, especially a head coach, wants to see,” SBCC head coach Craig Moropoulos said of the team’s all-around performance. “They want to see everything, special teams, offense, defense and when you have something like that it’s so rewarding.” SBCC were in command from the opening kickoff, as the defense got a quick stop and gave the offense possession in Antelope Valley territory. After a pair of big rushes by Donovan Harris and Amir Dendy, the Vaqueros opened the scoring on a 5-yard rush by Dendy to go up 7-0 with 10:45 on the clock. The next Marauder drive lasted just 54 seconds, setting up another Dendy touchdown from 1 yard out to double the Vaquero lead to 14-0. The first-quarter dominance continued as Antelope Valley punted once again and the SBCC offense stayed hot. This time, Will Doherty got in on the fun with a 15-yard rollout touchdown pass to running back Antonio Trone to bring the score to 21-0. (Lily Chubb / Noozhawk Photo)</figcaption></figure>The Vaquero offense took advantage immediately, as Benni Collins entered the game under center and found Aaron Jackson for a 2-yard score and a four-touchdown lead early in the second. Another Antelope Valley punt set up another SBCC score by Dendy from 3 yards out, his third of the night to make it 35-0 with nine minutes left in the half. The Vaquero defense, led by a standout performance from the defensive line unit, continued to dominate while Jackson Smith nailed a 27-yard field goal to give SBCC a 38-0 lead at halftime. The SBCC defensive line ended the night with 10 total sacks for a loss of 77 yards, mainly on quarterback Sharmon Rester II, who has shown plenty of ability to run throughout the year. “I was really concerned before the game… because [Rester II] was scaring me, he’s a live wire, he keeps things going and he creates,” Moropoulos said. “I thought our guys did a great job slowing him down and I think that was the most rewarding for me in looking at our defense.” After the two sides traded stalled drives to begin the second half, the Vaqueros got back into the endzone on a 4-yard score by Dendy, his fourth touchdown of the night, to go up 45-0 at the end of the third. Dendy was a force in the rushing game all night, taking 11 carries for 66 yards while accounting for four of the team’s seven touchdowns. “He’s a special player amongst many of them,” Moropoulos said of Dendy. “He’s got a knack and you can see it when he runs the ball. (Lily Chubb / Noozhawk Photo)</figcaption></figure>The Marauders finally got onto the scoreboard at the 7:58 mark in the fourth quarter when Rester took a designed quarterback run around the edge for a 14-yard touchdown. However, the Vaqueros had one more score left in them as Collins connected with Ali Joseph Jr., who scampered 39 yards into the endzone to put the cherry on top of the 52-7 victory. As a team, SBCC outgained Antelope Valley 390-157 and forced seven punts out of the 10 total Marauder offensive possessions. “We’ve been close and we’ve been playing well, not well enough to win up to this point, but we’ve got a lot of young guys,” Moropoulos said. “The guys were ready, they worked hard for two weeks and it showed and now it’s got to carry into the next four weeks because we’ve got a heck of a challenge ahead of us. “What this kind of game does is it shows me that this team is very capable of playing very well in all three phases.” The Vaqueros (2-4, 1-2) will look to ride this momentum into next Saturday’s road matchup against El Camino at 6 p.m. </div></body>
