Background: The Voice of Democracy program, established in 1947, gives high school students a chance to share their thoughts on democracy and patriotism through an original audio-essay. Nearly 25,000 students from grades 9-12 compete each year for over $1 million in scholarships. The national first-place winner will receive a $35,000 scholarship to use at an American university or vocational school, while other awards range from $1,000 to $21,000. Each state’s first-place winner earns at least $1,000. Enter by submitting your essay to your local VFW Post by October 31, 2024.
