Nothing is official yet, but after another loss at home in a big game, Brown has lost all support and is now essentially a dead man walking. Despite the much-discussed contract buyout, it will be impossible for WVU director of athletics Wren Baker to jusitify keeping Brown after the team has once again regressed in his 6th season with the team. Now at 34-33 overall and 22-26 in the Big 12 Conference, the 2024-2025 season was Brown´s season to prove himself. Instead, it has been more of the same from Neal Brown and the Mountaineers, and although it might not make good financial sense to fire him right now, Wren Baker´s hand has been forced.Now, Baker must decide how to keep the football program afloat for the remainder of the season until permanent changes can be made. The obvious solution is for Baker to immediately fire Brown and introduce one of the current assistants as an interim head coach.The morale in the locker room is extremely low right now and the effort on the field last night suggests that many have started to give up on their coach. A positive change is needed to turn the locker room around and give the players reason to believe again.The answer is simple.Chad Scott. Scott, 50, is the Mountaineers´ current offensive coordinator/running backs coach, and is universally loved within the West Virginia football program. He is very energetic and would bring a positive, steady hand to lead the Mountaineers for the remainder of the season. Scott would keep the team together, turn the whole energy around within the program, and give West Virginia a real chance to turn this season around.The players understand what they are getting with Neal Brown leading the team, and they know by now that he is not the right person to lead them. The negative energy surrounding Brown outside of the WVU facility has started to leak into the locker room, and unfortunately, that affects the play and results on the field.Chad Scott immediately fixes that. He rebrands the Mountaineers and gives them a real spark.
