Meri Brown Tells Kody ‘We’re Exes’ in ‘Sister Wives’ Preview: ‘I’m Not Your Wife Anymore’

Meri Brown is speaking her truth to Kody Brown on Sister Wives. In a preview for the show’s Sunday, October 20, episode, Meri made it clear to Kody that she was done with their marriage.

“I’m in a really good place,” Meri, 53, said in a confessional. “I feel very peaceful about our situation. He doesn’t. Some of the things that he’s saying are really, really, really mean. He clearly has a lot of internal [issues] that he still needs to work on here.”

Kody, 55, told Meri that he “actually likes” her for the first time in six years. “I think it was more than that, be honest with yourself,” she retorted. The episode was filmed at the end of 2022, just weeks before Kody and Meri publicly announced that they were ending their spiritual marriage after more than 30 years together.

“I”m not going to go hang out [with you] at Christmas,” Meri warned Kody. “I’m not your wife anymore.” When Meri and Kody split, his spiritual marriages to Christine Brown and Janelle Brown had already ended, leaving Robyn Brown as his only remaining wife.

“I do have a wife who says that Meri is our family and you need to have her come over for Christmas,” Kody pointed out. “I normally just disregard her opinion.” Meri rolled her eyes at that comment, telling her estranged husband, “No you don’t.”

Kody appeared to get offended by this take, as he responded, “Oh yes I do. Really? You don’t know me if you think that I’m not a man of my own mind.” Meri assured Kody that she knows he makes his own decision, but added, “I also know you take into consideration [other] people’s opinions.”

At that point, Kody was ready to move on to a new topic and admitted, “I don’t know how we define ourselves with each other from here.” Meri had an answer and quickly replied, “We’re exes. Let’s be real. You don’t need to worry about me.” She also got in one final dig by telling Kody, “I just wish you knew how amazing of a person I really am.”

Kody and Meri dealt with relationship troubles for years before they finally decided to call it quits. Things really boiled over in 2015, though, when Meri was involved in a catfish scandal that was exposed after she began an online relationship with someone else. The man she thought she was talking to turned out to be a woman the whole time.

In 2023, Kody admitted that he was still “extremely angry” about the situation. However, Meri explained that things were bad in her relationship with Kody long before the catfish scandal erupted.

“I’m going to clarify something here, and this is what a lot of people really misunderstand, and that is the fact that a lot of people look at the catfishing as a defining moment of the demise of our marriage or even the family,” she said. “And it’s really not. Because there was a lot of things that were happening for years prior.”
