Revisiting Thrilling Mega Man Star Force 3 in 2024

Mega Man Star Force 3 debuted in 2009, another installment of the Star Force series. This Action Role-playing series is a follow-up to the much-beloved Mega Man Battle Network franchise. While it maintains the same feel, Star Force effortlessly distinguishes itself from its predecessor. Star Force 3 is the final project in its series, capping the successful RPG off at three games. Today, we dive in and see what makes Star Force 3 so endearing.

    Version Differences

Like Pokemon or its contemporary installments, Star Force includes version exclusives. Mega Man Star Force 3 has two version exclusives: Black Ace and Red Joker. Minimal differences exist between the two versions. Additionally, neither game affects the plot significantly. You do not need to buy both unless you have a serious hobby of collecting. Both games tell the same overall story, so you should not fear missing out on anything.

The actual differences come in the form of exclusive 'battle cards' depending on which version. Battle Cards are a gimmick specific to the Star Force series. They function as support items with various uses, one being the deletion of EM Viruses. Exclusive Battle Cards are given depending on which version of Star Force 3. In addition, the transformations for Red Ace and Black Joker are available. These are two forms that Geo Stelar can take on that bolster his abilities. Overall, the minor differences can provide enough entertainment for players.

    All about the Noise

Mega Man Star Force 3 introduces a new concept known as Noise to the Star Force audience. The Noise itself is another central facet of the Wizards' existence. The Wizards debut in Star Force 3, and are the successors to the NetNavis of Battle Network fame. They exist as sentient EM-wave beings created with artificial intelligence, acting as assistants to the player. Through Noise, players can build up their Noise Percentage by fighting enemies. Players will have Mega Man enter a Noise Change and become more powerful. He takes on a form resembling the FM-ian beings from the first Star Force installment.

The Noise is a massive focus in Mega Man Star Force 3's story. Its effects distort the Wave World and cause some Wizards to rampage. A crime organization known as Dealer is after the Noise. Their goal is to use the Noise waves to summon a massive meteor made of Noise to collide with Earth. Because of this, Mega Man and the heroic Satella Police stand against various forces. Mega Man's ability to positively interact with Noise makes him an asset. Your battles lead you to fight against Crimson Dragon, a dangerous beast acting at the core of Meteor G. Noise is a fun gimmick sure to win fans over with its integration.

The Case of Star Force 4

Mega Man Star Force 4 was in the works early on and had potential. This RPG title entered production in 2009-2010 but was sadly canceled. Despite its promising gameplay, Mega Man Star Force 3's sales were lower than expected. Mega Man Battle Network's DS Port, Rockman.EXE Operate Shooting Star, was released in 2009. Both games led to the end of Star Force 4 and Star Force's entire series.

So far, only a few details exist concerning what Star Force 4 could have been. The main storyline focused on Geo Stelar teaming with Kazuma, the descendant of Lan Hikari. Both would be rendered outlaws and forced to go on the run. Hacking would have been a feature similar to the Noise system in Star Force. This game sounds like it would have been fun to blast through. Unfortunately, Star Force 4 died before it ever had the potential to be something.

    An Underrated Masterpiece

Star Force 3 is a phenomenal game and the unfortunate end of Mega Man's RPG era. However, the title's underwhelming sales forced Capcom to drop the series. Despite the sales, Star Force 3 remains a fun spectacle on its own.

Battle Network has received a recent resurgence due to the game's remaster. With its three games, Star Force has the potential to follow in its footsteps. Not only would this remaster Star Force 3 for a new audience, but it could put the series back on the map.
