Manchester City saw a dramatic last-gasp winner stand against Wolves on Sunday despite the decision being taken to VAR.

The reigning champions secured a 2-1 victory at Molineux in their Premier League clash to ensure they leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the table ahead of the Reds' upcoming game with Chelsea .

John Stones found the back of the net with 97th-minute header in injury time but it was ruled out for offside, with referee Chris Kavanagh deeming Bernardo Silva to be in an offside position and in Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa's line of vision.

However, the decision was taken to an on-field review after VAR believed Silva wasn’t in the line of vision and had no impact on the goalkeeper.

Following a check of the goal, the original decision was overturned, and City was awarded its late winner. To provide some clarity, Liverpool.com has outlined the rules below.

A player will be penalized if they are:

• Preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent's line of vision, or
• Challenging an opponent for the ball, or
• Clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent, or
• Making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

It is the second time in a month that Stones has rescued City at the death, having also popped up with a 98th-minute equalizer against title rivals Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in September.

The result means Pep Guardiola's side leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table by two points, although the Reds can regain their position with a win against Chelsea today.

A win for the Blues, however, would lift them up to third and just a point behind Arne Slot's side, meaning there is plenty to play for when the two sides take to the stage at Anfield.
