ROCKINGHAM — Just one of Richmond Senior High School’s fall sports programs will continue regular season play this week.

A few other teams will compete in regionals or begin state playoffs, while the football program has a bye week.

Raider soccer has two away matches

The Richmond boys’ soccer team is the lone program that will continue its regular season slate this week.

The Raiders (4-12-2, 3-6-1 Sandhills Athletic Conference) have two away matches, starting with non-conference West Cabarrus (7-11-2) Monday (7 p.m.) and on the road at Scotland Wednesday (2-10-2, 0-10 SAC) at 6 p.m.

The junior varsity boys’ soccer team (8-6-3, 5-2-2 SAC) will only play at West Cabarrus. That match will start at 5 p.m.

Lady Raider volleyball awaiting playoff seeding

Sunday afternoon will see the release of the NCHSAA 4A state volleyball playoffs, and currently Richmond is projected to make the postseason.

The latest projections have the Lady Raiders (7-14) making a first-round trip to Green Level High School (20-2) as the No. 3 and No. 30 matchup.

The Richmond Observer will publish playoff details when they’re finalized.

Lady Raider golf, cross country prepped for regionals

Regional championships will be held this week for girls’ golf and cross country.

Freshman golfer Talley Webb, representing Richmond in the postseason for the first time since 2019, will tee off in the NCHSAA 4A Central regional at Longleaf Golf and Family Club Monday at 7:50 a.m.

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams can send up to five runners each to the NCHSAA 4A Mideast regional, which will be run Saturday morning at Wakemed Soccer Park.

Football to rest up during off week

After nine consecutive weeks of football to start the season, the Raiders (7-2, 5-0 SAC) enter their bye week just one win away from claiming the outright conference title.

Head coach Brad Denson said the week will be spent to rest and recuperate before game planning for Scotland High School.

The regular-season finale at home against the Fighting Scots (3-5, 2-2 SAC), which is also Richmond’s senior night, is set for Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The JV Raiders (7-2, 4-1 SAC) will travel to Scotland on Halloween for their final game of the season. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.

Sports editor’s note: The Lady Raider tennis season is complete. The Richmond Observer will publish regional and All-Conference articles this week.
