Holstein Kiel's wait for a first ever Bundesliga victory continues for at least another week after they were beaten 2-0 at home by Union Berlin on Sunday.

Aljoscha Kemlein had lots of space to head Union ahead in the 18th minute into the top right corner for his first goal as a pro. Tom Rothe had provided the cross and then found the net himself with an 89th-minute header to clinch victory.

Union almost already led after 20 seconds when Benedict Hollerbach nodded just over, and Christopher Trimmel hit the side-netting later in the half.

Kiel raised their game after the break but were unable to stage a comeback like in their previous game at champions Bayer Leverkusen where they snatched a 2-2 draw from two goals down.

Nicolai Remberg and Finn Porath were denied by Union goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow, and Benedikt Pichler aimed over the crossbar, before Union's second sealed the game.

Promoted Kiel remain second last and their next chance to get a maiden win comes on Saturday at last season's runners-up VfB Stuttgart. Union rose to fifth, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

Wolfsburg host Werder Bremen in the other Sunday game.
