SNF Game Prediction: Road conditions may be tougher than expected for Jets

The New York Jets were able to get All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams this week, but that doesn't make their Week 7 opponent any less formidable.

Although they rarely earn any style points, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a playoff-caliber defense and a Super Bowl winning coach. They're also 4-2 overall.

The idea that the Jets are expected to win is borderline absurd. Sure, a 20-16 victory is firmly within the realm of possibility, but it's wild that New York has become a 2-point road favorite over Pittsburgh.

The Steelers' vaunted defensive front led by All-Pro TJ Watt may be able to take advantage of a mediocre Jets' offensive line. Rodgers has seemingly been under consistent heat when dropping back to pass the last few weeks. He has been nicked up on the knee and the ankle but has powered through without missing a snap.

Now, Rodgers has Adams back on his side along with a revitalized Allen Lazard and emerging star Garrett Wilson. Still, it won't be easy to move the ball against a Steelers' defense that ranks eighth amongst NFL leaders.

Meanwhile, the Jets' second-ranked defense will have to contend with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, who is replacing Justin Fields in the starting lineup this week on Sunday Night Football.

In terms of official game predictions, Sporting News veteran analyst Vinnie Iyer is leaning toward the home team.

From NFL picks, predictions against the spread Week 7 :

    • Jets at Steelers (-1.5, 36.5 o/u)

    Sunday 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC

The Steelers' defense had a get-well game with T.J. Watt leading the way in Las Vegas. They'll come home to chase a jackpot with Watt flying off the edge on Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers can't pass on the Jets, but they won't mind embracing another run-heavy game plan with Justin Fields (or Russell Wilson) and Najee Harris.
