Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has been one of the team's best players on offense this season, but the standout running back now has an injury concern during the Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Montgomery, who is in the midst of a sensational season and recently secured himself a contract extension, suffered the injury on a carry in the first quarter against the Vikings.

Montgomery appears to have suffered a leg injury in the opening quarter of the divisional contest against Minnesota and he had to be helped off the field. Here's the latest on the Lions running back.

UPDATE: Great news, as Montgomery was spotted on the exercise bike on the sideline, which means, at the very least, he has avoided a serious injury. We'll see if Montgomery can get back into the game, though.

UPDATE: The Lions have announced that Montgomery has a knee injury and is questionable to return.

According to Justin Rogers of the Detroit Football Network , the injury appears to have occurred to Montgomery's left leg, although the exact issue isn't clear at this moment.

The worse news is, Montgomery had to be helped off the field and couldn't put any weight on his leg.

Losing Montgomery for this game would obviously be a devastating blow, especially with how bad things have gone early on for the Lions. Montgomery has been the very definition of a stud for Detroit through five games.

With Montgomery sidelined, fellow running back Jahmyr Gibbs will handle the bulk of the work. The Lions also have Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki active to lend a helping hand.

We'll update this article as soon as an update on Montgomery is known.
