WARREN — The U.S. Department of Justice announced Thursday that two individuals have been indicted in connection with the fatal shooting of a U.S. postal worker in March.

A federal grand jury indicted Kaprise Sledge, 24, and Thomas Sledge, 44, on charges of murder of a U.S. officer and use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, according to court records.

Both face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

The incident occurred on March 2, when Warren police responded to a call of shots fired on Olive Avenue.

Officers found the victim, 33-year-old postal worker Jonte Davis, in his delivery vehicle.

Police administered first aid, and Davis was transported to Trumbull Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Warren police have described the shooting as a “targeted attack.”

I thought that the criminal element stayed away from postal workers, because they bring those welfare checks.
