    Everyday Fall Smothered Chicken: Flavorful Chicken Dinner Recipe

    Ingredients

    For the Chicken:

    • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 medium onion, sliced
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 cup chicken broth
    • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh thyme, if available)
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

    For Serving:

    • Cooked rice or mashed potatoes

    Directions

    Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

    1. Season the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
    2. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.

    Step 2: Sear the Chicken

    1. Cook the Chicken: Add the chicken to the skillet and sear for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

    Step 3: Make the Gravy

    1. Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
    2. Add Broth and Cream: Stir in the chicken broth, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, onion powder, and paprika. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.

    Step 4: Combine Chicken and Gravy

    1. Return Chicken: Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning some of the gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for another 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

    Step 5: Serve

    1. Plate the Dish: Serve the smothered chicken over rice or mashed potatoes, spooning the gravy generously over the top.
    2. Garnish: Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired.
