National Lead Poisoning Awareness Week, observed this year October 20 - 26, exists to raise awareness about the dangers of lead exposure and the steps we can take to prevent it. Lead poisoning poses serious health risks, especially for young children and pregnant women, and can lead to developmental delays, learning disabilities, and other health complications. There is no safe level of lead in the blood. Even very low levels in children’s blood are linked to negative effects on intellect, concentration, behavior, and academic achievement.
