SWEET SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – As you may already know, Ashby Berkley, project manager and the gentleman who purchased the historic “Old Sweet”, a National Landmark property, and donated to the public for a park, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12. Arietta DuPre, niece and former executive director of operations will now take over the operations of the restoration project as the new project manager and executive director of the Historic Sweet Springs Turnpike Trail and Sweet Springs Watershed Association. DuPre assures that the restoration projects will continue as planned.

    Upcoming events include:

Friday, Oct. 25 is children’s night at the Sweet Springs House of Horror from 7-10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 26 is a regular “scare” night from 7-10 p.m.

This year there are new scenes, and new areas of the hotel including the third floor, a new haunted hayride trail, new themes and screams and more.

Meet and greet event on Saturday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. both days.

DuPre said, “A special event at the Sweet Springs Park. Meet and greet with the staff (volunteers) of the park. Refreshments will be served. These event days are for all to come visit the hotel, and get an idea of the future plans and since we are a public park, we want to hear your ideas, as well. Anyone interested in the hotel and the restoration should attend one of these two days and let us know what you would like to see here at the park. All local elected officials, business people and community leaders should attend, as well.”
