9 biggest takeaways from Lions win over Vikings, Jared Goff looks like the league MVP

Is your heart pumping? I know mine is. The Lions continue to win games that the old Lions would have lost and it's beautiful to see. The Lions pulled out a 31-29 win against the undefeated Vikings and are now the first place team in the NFC North.

    Goff Report

You can't tell me this guy isn't the best quarterback in the NFL right now. He went out and had another amazing game that saw him go 22-25 for 280 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 88% of his passes on Sunday. That is insane. What's more insane is that he's completed 84.5 % in the last four games combined. Dude is playing MVP level football right now.

    Overcomers

The Lions start to this game was really bad. They went out and took a sack, got called for holding twice, failed on a fake punt in their own territory and then allowed a touchdown. Then they went three and out on the ensuing drive and the Vikings kicked a field goal. It had the feeling of a nightmare day until the Lions rallied off 21 unanswered points to end the half. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the old Lions would have turtled and took the beatdown.

The Lions overcame another thing late in the game. David Montgomery has a bad fumble six and the Lions had to overcome that to get the win and they did. What a day.

    Run to you girlfriend Jahmyr

Jamhyr Gibbs broke off this beautiful 45-yard touchdown run in the first half. Look at that juke.

It's like he used the stick instead of hitting the square button. Then he went and hugged his girlfriend in the expensive seats. He clearly wanted to see her again because he ran in another touchdown at the end of the second quarter. Gibbs finished the day with 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Fakes are fun and then they're not fun

I love the aggressiveness that Dan Campbell coaches with. I absolutely do, but then there are times when they just don't feel necessary and you can almost tell their coming before they happen. That's what happened on Sunday. I get the idea of putting your best foot forward right away, but the Vikings read that one like a book and it led to a score. Keep them coming, but maybe at different times.

Seriously? This guy went in the second-round?

There are times when NFL front offices really overthink things, this is one of them. Everyone knew going into the 2023 NFL Draft that Brian Branch was going to be really good, but then he fell right into the Lions hands in the second-round. Now he's putting up an All-Pro type season and doing stuff like this.

It would be a shock if the Lions didn't make a trade after this game

The Lions really need to go out and find a guy or two to help replace Aidan Hutchinson. That was very evident on Sunday against the Vikings. The Lions struggled to get much outside pressure all day long. They did get a sack from Josh Paschal and there was a time or two when James Houston came close, but they need so much more.

    Island of misfit toys

The Lions do need to make a trade, but we saw some really encouraging stuff from guys who's names you might not know super well. Trevor Nowaske had a big game with a walk off sack, but he also got some other big stops. James Houston put in some pressures, Isaac Ukwu made a smart play and everyone else chipped in.

    Jake "freakin" Bates

Any doubt I had left about Bates, which wasn't a whole lot, is totally gone now. You step in the game and boot that kick down the middle in a huge spot in a huge game like that, you've proven that you're the guy.

    Another good one from Arnold

We didn't hear Arnold's name a ton on Sunday and when you don't hear a cornerback's name, that's a good thing. He didn't commit any penalties and he had some nice breakups. He's really been looking more and more like a first round pick as a of late.

Lions tried to give the game away early but won despite themselves.
