Temple maintained the lead throughout the set and held a 24-14 lead at match point.The Niners refused to go down without a fight. Jessica Ricks and Selanny Puente provided the spark the Niners needed to claw their way back. They combined for five kills and a block to help fuel an 11-0 scoring run to take a 25-24 lead which put CLT at set point. Taylor Davenport, who finished the match with 16 kills, answered back with a kill to end the scoring run as Temple narrowly held on for the 27-25 set win to clinch the match.INSIDE THE BOX SCOREKristen Birmingham led Charlotte with 14 kills in the match to bring her season total to 249. Her eight digs tied the team-high with Ricks. Puente once again provided a big presence at the net, finishing with nine kills, two solo blocks, and three block assists. For the season, Puente now has 73 total blocks including 24 solo blocks. Maddie Stuesser dished out 19 assists to go along with a service ace, three digs, and a block assist. Charlotte totaled nine blocks as a team to bring their season total to 166 which leads the American Athletic Conference.Charlotte returns to Halton Arena on Wednesday (Oct. 23) when they host in-state rival East Carolina.
