Jelly Roll’s path to near-ubiquitous stardom has been littered with speed bumps. Growing up in East Tennessee, the “Need a Favor” singer cycled in and out of incarceration as a teenager and 20-something. Attempting to break into the hip-hop scene, the 39-year-old megastar (born Jason DeFord) sold mixtapes out of his car. His international breakthrough came in 2023 with the release of his country debut, Whitsitt Chapel. Now at the height of his fame, Jelly Roll recently threatened to expose the “slimy” music industry in a pair of tweets.

Jelly Roll: The Music Industry Is “All Smoke and Mirrors”

Taking to X/Twitter Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon, Jelly Roll went on a puzzling tirade about the music industry.

“Learned a lot about how slimy the music business is this week, don’t worry yall know I’m going to expose it soon,” wrote the “Winning Streak” hitmaker. “This whole thing is smoke and mirrors yall. All that s— Russ be talking about is REAL!”

The Grammy nominee is likely referring to New Jersey rapper Russ, who recently lashed out online against his “issues” with the current state of music journalism.

Two days later, Jelly Roll’s post had garnered 8.4 million views, including from child star Corey Feldman. “I think I may know about what U speak……Darkness lies within,” wrote the Lost Boys star.

Jelly Roll: “A Mountain Out of a Molehill”

For those who don’t know, Corey Feldman has been quite outspoken about his own painful experiences with sex abuse in Hollywood. However, Jelly Roll hopped back on X/Twitter Saturday (Oct. 19) to clarify that he was not referring to the sinister conspiracy that many fans seemed to infer.

“Man yall made a mountain out of a molehill with this one,” wrote the Entertainer of the Year nominee. “All these weirdly over dramatic comments about selling souls and satanic weird s— is just weird . lol. I’ll be talking about all this on my wife’s podcast soon.”
