American Red Cross calling for volunteers and donors in wake of hurricane devastation

(WTRF) — Countless families and community members are wading through uneasy waters as the devastating effects of hurricanes Helene and Milton can still be felt throughout the country.

The Red Cross has opened shelters in both Florida and North Carolina, aiding over 3,000 individuals.

Executive director Sharon Kesselring says the Red Cross desperately needs volunteers in times like these.

She says there are several ways people in the Ohio Valley can help storm victims recover.

It does take volunteers to make this happen and that’s why we’re asking people to consider it. If you can’t volunteer the second and third best thing you can do is either donate blood because we definitely need to be replacing from the blood drives we’ve lost. The third thing you can do is to give from your heart and from your pocketbook.”
