Fire crews responded just before noon to an apartment building in University Heights. Officials say the one-alarm fire was considered an "all-hands" instance, meaning it was significant enough to require three fire engines or more to be committed before any second-alarm companies arrive. According to the FDNY, the fire started on the fourth floor of the six-story apartment building at 2327 Andrews Ave. Residents and plumes of smoke poured out onto the streets. "It made us a little nervous,” says building resident Andreas Perez. "I saw some smoke, and [my neighbors and I] went through the alley into the back and we saw the apartment with smoke coming out, and then the fire department came." Upon accessing the scene, firefighters donned hazmat suits as they removed the charred remains of a lithium-ion battery before extinguishing it. Both the injured firefighter and resident were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with minor injuries. It was not immediately known what caused the fire. "
