Shortly, after, the 18-year-old had to get his left leg amputated as he goes through six months of chemo treatments.Cook's family created a GoFundMe for his home renovations to make it handicap accessible said they were quoted for a cost of over $300,000 to make that happen.Myron's aunt, Jeanette Bragg made the GoFundMe to support the heavy renovation costs."They wanna stay in their home so in order to make that happen, we have to help do some modifications," Bragg said."We're gonna make it happen. We're gonna do what we need to do. No child should ever have to face this."The modifications include widening doorways, building a ramp outside, replacing their gravel driveway and redoing their bathroom."It just all kind of happened really really fast. He had plans to go to college and now he's been thrown this curveball and it's tough," Bragg said.Another one of Myron's aunts, Rebecca Bowman, said the family is tight knit and they've all come together to be there in support of Myron."It's hard. You never realize how much money something costs until something like that happens and you have to change your whole life around, you have to change it to work around it," Bowman said.Bowman said Myron and his parents have been constantly travelling from their home in St. Albans to Cabell Huntington hospital, so she and Bragg have been helping them out in every way they can."You really never realize something like this can happen to you, and then when it does, it's shocking it's devastating," Bowman said.So far, the family has raised nearly $15,000 for the renovations but the family hopes to raise $20,000 to help with costs.
