Undefeated Columbus rolls over host Beloit Turner 49-14

BELOIT — The idea Beloit Turner’s football team was biting off a little more than it could chew Friday night against Capitol Conference frontrunner Columbus was fairly accurate.

The Cardinals (8-1, 6-0) scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters on their way to a 49-14 victory.

Columbus ran 32 times for 293 yards and quarterback Peyton Powers threw for two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

In the first quarter, Columbus’ Connor Roche scored on runs of 4 and 31 yards and Powers added a 33-yard run for score and a 21-0 lead. Powers connected with Jordan Mobry for TD passes of 13 and 3 yards and Kaleb. Sime added a 40-yard TD run for a 42-0 halftime lead.

Owen Cowell tacked on a 39-yard TD run in the third quarter for a 49-0 lead.

Turner scored both its touchdowns in the fourth quarter. JP Roche connected with TJ Noack for a 17-yard TD and then hit Brayden Ward for 35 yards and a 35-yard TD.

The Trojans threw for 122 yards, but rushed 13 times for negative-7 yards. Noack finished with four catches for 59 yards.
