    Walleye complete 2-game sweep of Bloomington Bison

    BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Toledo secured its second straight win to open the season on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over the expansion Bloomington Bison at Grossinger Motors Arena.

    The Walleye earned the win despite being outshot by the Bison 40-27.

    Toledo’s Carson Bantle made it 1-0 with a goal 8:56 into the first period. The Walleye then managed a pair of goals compared to Bloomington’s one in the middle period.

    Trenton Bliss found the back of the net, assisted by Tyler Spezia and Brandon Hawkins, just 52 seconds into the period for a 2-0 advantage. However, the Bison cut the margin in half at 2-1 on a Bryce Montgomery goal at 3:53 into the second.

    Spezia got into the scoring column for the Walleye at the 7:03 mark, giving them a two-goal edge at 3-1 entering the final period.

    In the final 20 minutes, Gabriel Seger scored for Toledo and Case McCarthy got a goal for Bloomington. Also picking up assists for the Walleye were Seger, Brendon Michaelian, Hawkins (2), Bliss, and Jalen Smereck.

    Walleye goalie Carter Gylander finished with 38 saves.

    Toledo is in Idaho to take on the Steelheads on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m.
