As halftime approached, George Karlaftis recorded his second sack of the season, forcing another punt from the 49ers. San Francisco got on the board with a 24-yard field goal before halftime, trimming the Chiefs’ lead to 14-6. Kansas City would receive the ball to start the third quarter.

Chiefs Seal the Win Despite Turnovers

Mahomes opened the third quarter by throwing his second interception of the day after Xavier Worthy slipped on his route. The 49ers capitalized on the short field, scoring a touchdown but missing the extra point, keeping Kansas City ahead 14-12. The Chiefs quickly responded with Mahomes orchestrating a 79-yard drive, highlighted by his career-long 33-yard run.

Mahomes capped the drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown to give the Chiefs a 21-12 lead with 14:13 left in the fourth quarter. The defense kept the pressure on as safety Jaden Hicks intercepted Purdy in the endzone for his third interception of the game.

George Karlaftis continued to disrupt Purdy’s rhythm, pressuring the quarterback into poor decisions throughout the game. Mecole Hardman sealed the victory on the next offensive series with an 18-yard jet sweep touchdown, finishing a 12-play, 80-yard drive. Butker’s extra point put the game out of reach, making it 28-12. Then, in the final three minutes, the 49ers secured a late-game garbage time touchdown, but the game was already over.

Kansas City’s defense was the driving force behind their sixth consecutive victory. Three interceptions, including a critical one in the end zone by Jaden Hicks, ensured that the 49ers couldn’t keep up despite Mahomes' turnovers.
