LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Port of Los Angeles set a new cargo record in September, handling 954,706 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), marking a 27% increase compared to 2023. Officials also reported the busiest quarter in the port’s history, with about 2.8 million containers moved in the last three months.

Loaded imports rose by 26% to 497,803 TEUs, while loaded exports dropped 5% to 114,702 TEUs. Empty container movement surged 45% compared to last year, with 342,201 TEUs processed.

In the first nine months of 2024, the port moved 7.6 million TEUs, an 18% increase from 2023.

Port Executive Director Gene Seroka highlighted the port's efficient operations, attributing the surge to added shipping lines and extra loaders. However, rail delays are increasing, and efforts are underway to address the issue.
