Cris Collinsworth Faces Backlash for Controversial Comments on 'Sunday Night Football'

While the duo of Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth always delivers an energetic broadcast on "Sunday Night Football ," Collinsworth once again stirred controversy during the New York Jets' matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers .

The Jets, sitting at 2-4, faced heavy scrutiny as they fought for their season. With newcomer Davante Adams joining the ranks, excitement was high, but it was tight end Tyler Conklin who scored a touchdown in the first half, extending the Jets' lead to 15-6.

However, a pivotal moment arose when interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich tried to challenge a play before the touchdown. He dropped the challenge flag and couldn't throw it in time, but it turned out to be a lucky break since the subsequent play resulted in a touchdown.

Collinsworth then made a controversial remark, labeling the touchdown "a play that could save their season" and jokingly adding, "only the Jets." His comments quickly garnered attention and criticism, especially from fans who felt they undermined the seriousness of the situation.

"That saved the Jets. That may turn the season of the New York Jets. Ah, only the Jets." Collinsworth said.

The previous play indicated that Ulbrich might have actually won the challenge had it been thrown, but Collinsworth's far-fetched comment nonetheless drew criticism from NFL fans, who felt it had a negative connotation.

"I mean... the challenge was to see if they scored a TD, right? So why does that change anything? Collinsworth gonna Collinsworth." One fan said .

"The challenge was gonna show…wait…you guessed it. The jets score a TD. CC continues to be an id**t." Another fan remarked .

"Cris Collinsworth is insufferable." One more fan posted .

Unfortunately, there have been many more instances like this. Collinsworth, a former NFL player with the Cincinnati Bengals and a longtime broadcaster for "Sunday Night Football," has faced increased backlash this year for his controversial remarks each week, despite his deep knowledge of the game.
