For fans of the wizarding world, these Harry Potter Butterscotch Cookies are a whimsical delight. They combine the rich, buttery goodness of browned butter with a luscious butterscotch frosting, a hint of caramel swirl, and charming chocolate wizard hats that add a touch of magic. Perfect for themed parties or a cozy movie marathon, these cookies will transport you straight to the halls of Hogwarts. A Magical Mix of Flavors

These cookies capture the warm, comforting flavors of butterscotch and caramel, layered over a soft, chewy cookie base. The secret to the intense, nutty flavor lies in the browned butter, which brings out a deep richness. The butterscotch chips in the dough add extra bursts of sweetness, while the smooth butterscotch frosting and caramel swirl on top make each bite truly decadent. The crowning touch—mini chocolate wizard hats filled with colorful buttercream for each Hogwarts house—adds both flair and fun, making them a perfect treat for any wizard or muggle.

    Recipe: Harry Potter Butterscotch Cookies

    Ingredients:

    • For the Cookies:
      • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
      • ½ tsp. baking powder
      • ½ tsp. baking soda
      • ¼ tsp. salt
      • ¾ cups unsalted butter, browned
      • 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
      • 1 large egg
      • 1 egg yolk
      • ½ tsp. vanilla extract or paste
      • ⅓ cup butterscotch chips
      • 2 Tbsp. whole milk
    • For the Butterscotch Frosting:
      • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
      • 1 ¾ cups confectioner’s sugar
      • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
      • 2-3 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream
      • ¼ tsp. salt
      • ⅓ cup butterscotch chips, melted
    • For the Caramel Swirl:
      • ½ cup caramel baking squares
      • 3 Tbsp. heavy cream
      • ¼ tsp. salt
    • For the Chocolate Wizard Hats:
      • 12 ice cream sugar cones
      • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate, melted
      • 2 Tbsp. coconut oil
      • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
      • 1 ¼ cups confectioner’s sugar
      • ¼ tsp. vanilla extract
      • ½-1 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream
      • 12 Oreo Thins

    Directions:

    Step 1: Prepare the Cookies
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a small saucepot, brown the butter over medium heat, allowing it to simmer until it develops a deep, nutty aroma and golden-brown color, about 5-8 minutes. Pour the browned butter into a large mixing bowl, then add in the brown sugar and whisk to combine. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla, mixing until smooth. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, followed by the butterscotch chips and milk, until a soft dough forms.

Scoop and roll the dough into 2-3 tablespoon-sized balls. Roll them in granulated sugar, then place them on the prepared cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown around the edges. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

Step 2: Make the Chocolate Wizard Hats
Using a knife, carefully saw off the tip of each ice cream cone. This will serve as the pointed tip of the hat. Prepare the Hogwarts house buttercream by mixing butter, confectioner’s sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream until smooth. Divide the mixture into four bowls and color each according to the house colors: red, green, yellow, and blue. Fill each cone tip with the colored buttercream and attach them to Oreo Thins using melted chocolate. Place in the freezer for 1 hour to set. Dip each cone into melted chocolate until fully coated, then freeze again until firm.

Step 3: Butterscotch Frosting and Caramel Swirl
To make the frosting, use an electric mixer to combine softened butter, confectioner’s sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream until fluffy. Melt the butterscotch chips in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring between each. Mix the melted butterscotch into the buttercream until smooth. If it becomes too soft, chill it in the fridge briefly.

For the caramel swirl, melt the caramel squares with heavy cream over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.

    Step 4: Assemble the Cookies
Spread a generous layer of the butterscotch frosting over each cooled cookie using an offset spatula. Drizzle the caramel over the frosting and gently swirl with a toothpick for a marbled effect. Top each cookie with gold sprinkles for a touch of magic. For an extra special touch, place a chocolate wizard hat on top of a few cookies.

A Sweet Treat Worthy of Hogwarts

These Harry Potter Butterscotch Cookies bring the magic of the wizarding world to life in every bite. With their rich, buttery base, sweet butterscotch flavor, and whimsical decorations, they’re perfect for adding a touch of enchantment to any gathering. Whether you’re hosting a Harry Potter-themed party or just want to add a little magic to your day, these cookies are sure to delight.
