The L.A. Dodgers crushed the N.Y. Mets Sunday night with a 10-5 defeat in Game Six for its 25th National League Pennant Win, one that sets up an East Coast/West Coast battle for the ages in the 2024 World Series.

The win will send the team into its 22nd World Series, which will begin Friday night with a marquee matchup at Dodgers Stadium against the New York Yankees.

It's a comeback from a chaotic story that started with a scandal in South Korea at the 2024 season opener when standout superstar slugger Shohei Ohtani's translator was booted from the team on opening day after the feds accused him of stealing upwards of $16 million from the Dodgers' star. The translator, Ippei Mizuhara, 39, who lives in Newport Beach, has since pleaded guilty and is facing 30 years in prison. Ohtani, who has been cleared by prosecutors of any wrongdoing and is being called a victim in the case, spent the months since losing his translator leading his team to victory.

Everyone is talking about this upcoming historic matchup, which will be the 12th time the Bronx Bombers battle the old Brooklyn Dodgers for the World Series trophy. The most epic of those battles came in 1955 when, with the help of Jackie Robinson, the Dodgers won the first of its now seven World Series titles by smashing the Yankees in seven games.

But the Dodgers didn't always come out on top. In 1977, Reggie Jackson earned his moniker "Mr. October" when he hit three home runs in Game 6 of the World Series to lead the New York Yankees to an 8-4 win and a 4-2 Series victory over the Dodgers.

Ticket prices are already insane, starting at over $1100 for a single seat at Friday night's home game on StubHub. "It's worth it," says New York City transplant Max Hannah, 32, who now lives in Echo Park. "This is one of those series where I can hide in plain sight where a Brooklyn Dodgers hat so I don't get my ass kicked as a quiet root for the Yankees."
