Box 296, Vermilion, OH 44089 For more information: Email CBzBuddies@Outlook.comVERMILION — Every child deserves a bed to sleep in at night, and no child’s bed is complete without a bear to snuggle, which is why CBz Buddies is asking for the community’s help in time for Christmas.“The kids’ eyes just light up when they see the bear,” said Betsy Nestor, executive director of CBz Buddies. “A lot of these kids don’t have anything.”The nonprofit is holding its annual sponsor-a-bear drive through Thanksgiving so that children receiving a bed from Good Knights of Lorain County will have a friend to hold.Good Knights of Lorain County is a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to providing complete beds to children in need in Lorain County.Nestor started CBz Buddies by providing bears to first responders in 2018 after reading an article asking for donations for bears.“I saw that there was a need out there,” the retired Vermilion resident said. “I figured, I can do this.”While she still donates to first responders across the county and beyond, Nestor began working with Good Knights in 2020.Since then, she has donated thousands of new bears to the organization.“I order the bears by the hundreds,” she said. “They fill up a UPS truck.”Once they arrive, they are sent to the “bear cave,” where Nestor organizes and categorizes them, cuts of tags and preps them for delivery.“I’ve been on some deliveries with Good Knights, and the bears are just the icing on the cake for these kids getting new beds,” she said. “When the kids are handed the bears, they are just so excited.”CBz Buddies, which is a recipient of the Cleveland Monsters annual Teddy Bear Toss, is asking residents to be a part of that joy.By sponsoring a bear now through Thanksgiving, not only will children receiving a bed from Good Knights also receive a bear, but donors will be entered to win a Cleveland Monsters raffle basket.Each $10 donation will purchase a bear with a Christmas tag with the donor’s name on it. Sponsors also can receive a picture of the bear by text or email, if they include their phone number or email.The raffle basket, in honor of CBz Buddies' fifth anniversary of working with Good Knights, includes Cleveland Monsters hockey merchandise and four tickets to any game, plus many other items.
