Dry weather and steady northeast winds dominate the Charleston area, with a brief coastal flood advisory in place. Cooler air arrives by the weekend.

CHARLESTON — Issued by the National Weather Service at 4:04 AM on October 21, 2024.

Steady Northeast Winds and Warm Temperatures for the Week

The Charleston region will remain under the influence of high pressure through the week, keeping skies mostly clear and temperatures above seasonal norms. Highs today will hover in the upper 70s, with steady northeast winds blowing across the coast. Tonight’s low temperatures will dip into the 50s inland and 60s along the coast.

Tuesday Through Thursday: Warmer with a Backdoor Front Thursday

Dry weather will persist across South Carolina and Georgia, with highs reaching the lower 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday, compressional heating ahead of a backdoor cold front will drive temperatures into the mid-80s. Expect cooler nights in the 50s, with Wednesday night likely seeing strong radiational cooling due to calm winds.

Weekend Brings Slight Cooldown After a Weak Cold Front

A weak cold front is expected to move through Saturday night, bringing a slight dip in temperatures by Sunday. Until then, highs will remain a few degrees above normal with dry and mostly clear conditions.

Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect Until 1 PM Monday

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in place for Charleston and Colleton Counties from 10 AM to 1 PM today, with high tide expected around noon. Tides are forecast to peak between 7.1 and 7.3 feet MLLW, which could result in minor coastal flooding.

Marine Conditions: NE Winds Persist, Small Craft Advisory Active

High pressure north of the region will maintain northeast winds between 15 to 20 knots, with gusts reaching 25 knots over the Georgia waters. Seas will remain elevated, ranging from 3 to 5 feet in South Carolina waters to 4 to 7 feet offshore in Georgia. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for parts of the Georgia waters until Wednesday.

Rip Currents: Moderate Risk Along the Georgia Coast

A moderate risk for rip currents is in effect for Georgia beaches due to a combination of 10-second period swells, gusty northeast winds, and a steady longshore current.
