Cowboys Watch As Bills Celebrate 'Insane' Amari Cooper Trade in Win

FRISCO - As is the case with any front office that makes any move, those involved would prefer to be proven right. That goes for the front office of the Dallas Cowboys, who in 2022 dumped Amari Cooper in a trade because they ultimately viewed him unworthy of being a $20 million APY "foundational piece'' - you know, "shrinkage'' and all of that .

And it goes for the front office of the Buffalo Bills, who have every reason to reflect on Sunday's debut of Cooper as their lead receiver and to celebrate.

In Buffalo's 34-10 blowout victory over the Tennessee Titans, Cooper - who just days ago was dumped (again, this time by the Cleveland Browns) - caught four passes for 66 yards, including a touchdown pass from QB Josh Allen in the second half that sealed the deal on the outcome.

Cooper was acquired by Buffalo in a trade Tuesday with the Browns that sent a third-round pick back to Cleveland for the deal. Many have noted that the pick exchange makes Dallas look all the more foolish because the Cowboys only got a fifth-round pick in their deal with the Browns. What is ignored by critics in regard to that: When Dallas traded Amari to Cleveland, the Browns did the Cowboys a favor by taking on his bloated salary.

And this time around? The Browns did the Bills a favor by absorbing virtually all of that salary. So it's not just "a fifth-rounder vs. a third-rounder.'' It's about cap impact, too.

Of course, that is Cowboys minutiae now. The headline-grabber? Cooper has played in front of passionate audiences in other cities ... but he's "Bills Mafia'' now, and loving it.

"It just felt different," Cooper said after the game. "I have been a part of a lot of very passionate fan bases. I played for the Raiders, the Cowboys, the Browns, Alabama. But this one, it seems a little more heightened."

A cynic might argue that the effort and focus from Cooper is also "heightened'' because he now gets to play front-runner on a Super Bowl contender ... while also playing for his next contract. How will this turn out long-term for Buffalo? That's not a concern for the Bills now, who went "all in'' in a way that is defined quite differently than the Cowboys are defining it now.
