Van Doren, who also serves as the liaison to the Human Services Department, recently announced the beginning of the Medicare Open Enrollment Program for 2024.This annual enrollment period, running from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, provides an essential opportunity for Medicare beneficiaries to review and make changes to their Medicare health and prescription drug plans.Commissioner Van Doren emphasized the importance of this period, stating, “Medicare’s Open Enrollment is a critical time for our residents to ensure that they have the best possible coverage to meet their health needs. We encourage all Medicare recipients to take advantage of this opportunity to review their current plans and make any necessary adjustments.”To assist residents in navigating the complexities of Medicare, the Hunterdon County Senior Center will host a series of information sessions. These sessions are designed to provide comprehensive information on Medicare options, including Medigap, Medicare Advantage Plans, and prescription drug coverage. Experienced counselors from the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will be available to offer free and confidential assistance.An Understanding Medicare presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., at 6 Gauntt Place, Building #2, in the Social Services Conference Room in Flemington.Individual appointments are limited and must be scheduled in advance by calling 908-788-1361.
