ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine defensive lineman Xavier Holmes has been named the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Oct. 21. Holmes played a large role in leading Maine to a 35-7 victory over #5 Villanova on Saturday afternoon. The junior lineman registered a career-high matching 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and six total tackles in the win. Holmes' sack total marked his second consecutive game with 1.5 sacks while he has now recorded six or more tackles four times this season with at least a 0.5 tackle for loss in all seven outings. Holmes, who also posted a career-high five quarterback hurries, helped Maine limit Villanova's CAA third-ranked rush offense to a season-low 35-yards on the ground.
