Fort Worth’s Transportation & Public Works Department received the Gold Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association. The award recognizes efforts on the East Berry Corridor Plan.

The awards ceremony was held in Allen, Texas, after a three-day conference.

Why it matters: The East Berry Street Corridor Plan examined the corridor east of I-35W to develop a set of context-sensitive corridor concepts, strategies and actionable steps to help transform East Berry Street into a smart, walkable, multi-modal corridor for all ages and abilities. A series of open houses was held to gather feedback from the community on their needs and what they would like to have as a result of the study.

Go deeper: The corridor study involved analysis of the existing street to develop strategies and actions to enhance mobility and create a healthy relationship between the roadway and nearby land uses. For East Berry Street, the study created actionable items to create an inviting streetscape, safe communities and a sense of place for residents and visitors.

The East Berry planning study was not only a TPW-led effort, but was supported by various City departments including Development Services, FWLab, Fort Worth Public Library, Economic Development, Park & Recreation and others.
