Mayor Jeff Stehman will also join in the fun by picking the Mayor’s Choice award.Miners Theater is hosting its 23rd Annual Children’s Halloween Costume Contest on Saturday, Oct. 26. Jack Schmidt Ford is not only sponsoring the event, but is also donating the prizes to be awarded to the winners of each category. The children’s costume contest will go from noon to 3:30 p.m. Volunteer for Miners Theatre Tami Springer said the Children’s Halloween Costume Contest has been going on since 2009 and has turned into a City tradition that kids and their families can have fun at. “The judges pick the winners and we award ribbons on site,” Springer continued. “It is a family friendly event,” Springer siad. “It’s an opportunity for kids to show their costumes and possibly earn a ribbon. Families can even dress up and enter.”As far as costume designs go there are no “rules” but they should be age appropriate considering the ages of the contestants. Entries are divided by Traditional and TV/Movie categories. They are also divided by age. Springer encourages contestants to pre-register and that can be done online, which ends Friday Oct. 25. Registration on the day of the event will begin at 10:30, in order for children to receive their paddles. Check-In must be done prior to 11:30 to allow time for the printing of the judges’ sheets. Registration forms are limited to one per child.The children’s costume contest will go from noon to 3:30 p.m. and consists of two categories, Traditional and TV/Movie with age groups in each. There are four age groups competing: birth through two-years old, Pre-K through Kindergarten, first and second grades, and then third and fourth grades. Children can be in their age group and in the Family category. The Family/Group is a single category.Ribbons will be awarded to the Mayor’s Choice as well as first, second and third places from each age group and Family Group.Jack Schmidt is donating two Flat Screen 50″ TVs to be awarded to the Judges Favorites in the Traditional as well as the TV Movie Categories.
