Buprenorphine may be strong enough to treat fentanyl use disorder if it can be given at a high enough dose. Currently, WV Medicaid limits the dose of Buprenorphine to 16mg a day. Occasionally, they will approve 24mg for a limited time. This causes some patients to be referred to methadone treatment so they can obtain a higher dose.
