Chaos ensued following the Week 8 college football slate, in which the previous No. 1 Texas Longhorns fell to the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. It was the first loss of the season for the Longhorns, who were limited to only 29 rushing yards on Saturday night.

A reported screenshot from the official 247Sports social media account revealed that Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers would be sidelined for the rest of the college football season, taking the time to prepare for the NFL draft and potentially redshirt this season.

While a few fan accounts posted the screenshot that was supposedly posted by 247Sports, a few media members close to the Longhorns' locker room deemed it to be fake.

After the screenshot went viral on social media, Ewers chimed in.

"Fake News," Ewers posted with a photo of former United States president Donald Trump.

Ewers posted the screenshot to his Instagram account, which has over 250k followers. The report has gone viral on social media, receiving over one million views and thousands of shares through multiple fan accounts.

Ewers and the Longhorns have been at the top of news headlines all season. Part of Texas's popularity has come from their elite-level play, but the rise of backup quarterback Arch Manning has also played a huge factor.

In Texas' most recent loss to the Bulldogs, Ewers posted two touchdowns and 211 yards, completing 25-of-43 pass attempts, while Manning recorded 19 yards on three completions in limited action.

Ewers was playing in his second game back from an oblique injury he suffered earlier in the season. While he led Texas to a 34-3 victory in the "Red River Rivalry" in Week 7, recording one touchdown and 199 yards on 20 completions, questions continued to rise on whether Ewers should be the starting quarterback in Austin.

Manning, who committed to Texas as the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2023, has been Ewers' backup for two seasons.

Manning had the biggest opportunity of his career when he was plugged into the game against Georgia, hoping to lead Texas to a comeback win in Week 8. While he showed quality play, Ewers started the second half of the game against UGA, and the Longhorns ultimately lost 30-15.

Ewers and the Longhorns will look to bounce back in Week 9 when they face another SEC foe, the Vanderbilt Commodores.
