BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — If you have changed your address or your name, you have until Monday, Oct. 21 to fill out a new Alabama Voter Registration form.

At the Registrar’s office inside the Jefferson County Courthouse on Friday, Lottie Fouch filed new paperwork since she had previously been registered to vote in the state of Tennessee.

“As soon as I turned my paperwork in, they checked everything out. They came back and told me where to go vote, and what I needed, an ID,” Foutch explained.

For those who plan to print out the form and mail it, keep in mind that it must be postmarked by Monday, Oct. 21.

You can also register to vote online by going to alabamavotes.gov

Barry Stephenson, the Chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Registrars, said he anticipates approximately a half million registered voters in Jefferson County for the Nov. 5 general election. Of that number, he expects a 60 to 65% turnout for the presidential election, which includes those who vote absentee.

“We’re by far the largest county with registered voters, and this will be the highest number of registered voters we’ve ever sent to the polls,” Stephenson said.

Absentee election supervisor Trey Forrest said many voters choose this option because they cannot stand in long lines or they know they’ll be out of the county that day.

A planned visit to see the grandkids in California has Anne and Fielding Pierce voting absentee.

“We’re going to be out of town on the fifth and we feel like it’s really important to vote,” Anne Pierce said.

The last day to vote absentee in person is Oct. 31. The last day an absentee application can be accepted by mail is on Oct. 29, and the last day to hand deliver an absentee ballot is Nov. 4.
