Nashville Ranks Among Top 10 Affordable Cities for Remote Workers, Study Finds

A new study by The Perfect Rug has placed Nashville, Tennessee, among the top 10 most affordable city centers for remote workers in the U.S. Despite rising costs in some areas, Nashville offers an appealing balance between affordability and essential amenities for remote workers.

Nashville ranks tenth on the list, with an index score of 64.39. The city's relatively moderate rent, access to co-working spaces, and manageable meal costs make it an attractive destination for those working from home or in co-working spaces.

    Nashville's Remote Work Appeal

Nashville offers a range of benefits for remote workers, including competitive internet speeds and a healthy number of cafes and co-working spaces per capita. Here’s how the city stacks up based on key metrics from the study:

    • Average rent: $1,678 per month
    • Co-working desk rate: $33 per hour
    • Average internet speed: 351 Mbps
    • Average meal cost: $18
    • Average coffee cost: $5.05

While Nashville’s co-working desk rates are higher at $33 per hour, the city compensates with moderate rent compared to other cities, like Washington, D.C., and Seattle, where rent exceeds $2,000 monthly. Nashville also offers a vibrant cultural scene, making it an attractive destination for remote workers seeking a lively work-life balance.

    Remote Work Trends in Nashville

Nashville’s rising popularity among remote workers is part of a broader trend in the U.S. as more employees transition to remote or hybrid work models. Cities that offer affordable living, reliable internet, and abundant co-working spaces are becoming increasingly attractive.

"Remote workers are looking for cities where they can be productive without breaking the bank,” a spokesperson from The Perfect Rug said. “Nashville strikes a good balance between cost and amenities, with affordable rent and a range of options for working remotely.”

How Nashville Compares to Other Cities

Nashville ranked just behind Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which boasts the lowest co-working desk rates on the list at $10 per hour, and Denver, Colorado, where the number of co-working spaces per capita is among the highest in the country.

Nashville stands out for its relatively low meal costs and fast internet, making it a competitive option for remote workers who want affordability without sacrificing connectivity or access to work-friendly environments.

The Top 10 Cities for Remote Workers

The Perfect Rug’s study examined metrics like rent, internet speeds, and co-working spaces across major U.S. cities. While other cities like El Paso, Texas, and Austin, Texas, offer cheaper living and co-working rates, Nashville’s combination of moderate rent and fast internet makes it a standout for remote workers looking for a city that balances affordability with work-friendly amenities.

    Looking Ahead

As the demand for remote work-friendly cities grows, Nashville is poised to attract more digital nomads and professionals seeking an affordable and vibrant environment. Its cultural offerings and reasonable costs position Nashville as a rising star for remote work.

this is horse shit. I make well into 6 figs and it's not enough to enjoy living here; housing/food/entertainment I'd say 200k or better to actually comfortably enjoy living this town. that's assuming living in Nashville proper
