DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Leaders with the Dayton Metro Library will be listening to the community’s concerns tonight, turning the page after a recent brawl at the Southeast Branch.

A town hall meeting tonight will give the community an opportunity to share concerns. The goal of the meeting is not to determine a solution, but to understand perspectives.

“The goal is to make sure that we’re hearing from our community, from our constituents, from parents, from youth serving organizations, how we can work together to provide safe spaces,” said Debi Chess, development director at the Dayton Metro Library.

Several incidents are burgeoning the discussion tonight. Most recently, a brawl between teenagers that took place on Sept. 27.

The town hall meeting will be held at the Main Branch downtown from 6-7 p.m. Alongside leaders from the Dayton Metro Library, representatives from the Dayton Police Department and Dayton Public Schools will also be in attendance.

Another goal of the meeting is to unite the community.

“I think this has been an ongoing conversation and that this requires community effort. Like, when people stop thinking it’s just one organization or one culture’s responsibility, we’ll be able to move forward. Like we all have to do our part to ensure that when people are in Dayton, Ohio, they’re able to be themselves,” said Chrisondra Goodwine, school board member at Dayton Public Schools
