Halloween falls on a Thursday this year , and with so many spooky-themed events happening over the weekend , you might want to know whether your costume requires a coat or an umbrella.

Central Indiana has a chance for showers this week beginning Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis . On Friday, there's a 30% chance for thunderstorms, with meteorologists saying measurable precipitation is expected for the Indy metro area.

But it's not all bad news. Here's what Hoosiers should know about Central Indiana's weekend weather.

Will it rain this weekend in Central Indiana?

The best chance for showers this week in Central Indiana will be Thursday into Friday, according to NWS meteorologist Randy Bowers, who said there's a 40-60% chance the Indy metro area could see measurable precipitation.

Those storm clouds do, however, contain a silver lining for Indianapolis Hoosiers worried their Halloween costumes might get wet Friday night, Bowers said. Northern Indiana into the Great Lakes region has a better chance for showers while precipitation into Southern Indiana will likely taper off.

"It doesn't look like everybody will see rain," he said. "It doesn't look like a significant amount of rain will fall but it should be enough to at least be a positive for the kind of dry weather we've been in, so it's better than nothing."

    What about Saturday's weather forecast?

By Saturday, Bowers said any lingering rain should move east toward Ohio and Eastern Kentucky. Indiana doesn't look like it will have rainfall, he said.

"The temperatures will come down some, but it's not going to be a drastic cooldown," Bowers said. "It looks like (daytime) temperatures Saturday will be in the 60s."
