KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The City of Knoxville is set to begin a multiweek project to improve Woodrow Drive in the Fountain City neighborhood.

After infrastructure improvements beneath Woodrow Drive were completed earlier this year, work is expected to begin in the final week of October and wrap up by the end of November.

Part of the road will be closed to through traffic at times. Access will remain open for residents. The contractor will give advanced notice to residents when they plan to be working directly in front of their homes.

The repairs will involve rebuilding the road’s sub base with stone before covering it with two layers of asphalt. A city spokesperson said in a release that the work was planned at this time when additional crews were available in order to shorten the duration of the project.

“By scheduling this at the end of the citywide paving contract, Rogers Group has the capacity now to assign multiple crews to Woodrow, and the contractor did not have that option even a week or two ago,” Civil Engineering Manager Amanda Koenig said. “We thank the residents for their patience. We think this is the best solution, both in terms of reducing the dig-out work to the shortest duration of time possible, plus getting a quality street that will hold up over time.”
