Cleveland, OH. Congresswoman Shontel Brown recently awarded the Murtis H. Taylor Center in Cleveland, OH, over half a million dollars in federal funding. According to the organization's website, the Murtis H Taylor Services System is a county-wide charitable organization that provides Behavioral Health, Addiction, Youth, Family, and Senior Services.

In a recent press release, Congresswoman Brown and staff met with several Murtis H Taylor Executive Team members. It states that last Thursday, Congresswoman Brown visited the Murtis Taylor Community Center on Union Avenue to congratulate them and met with President & CEO Lovell Custard and Board Members Darian Johnson and Cynthia Sullivan to learn more about the impact of the grant. The Murtis Taylor Community Center serves as a cornerstone for residents, offering critical programs and resources that improve the community's well-being. With this new federal support, the center can improve its facility at 13411 Union Avenue in Southeast Cleveland and provide more support to those in need.

"I am proud to have secured this funding for the Murtis Taylor Community Center, an organization that plays a vital role in strengthening our community," said Congresswoman Shontel Brown. "The investment will help Murtis Taylor serve those in need and continue to be a place where residents of all ages can access essential resources, from youth programs to senior care."

According to the press release, the funding was secured through the Congresswoman's Community Project Funding (CPF) request, signed into law in March 2024. This money will help increase the center's capacity to provide vital services to children, adults, and seniors in the Cleveland area.

Congresswoman Brown requested the funding in March 2023. She advocated to ensure the project was supported to further its mission of providing comprehensive human services and support to underserved communities across Cleveland.
