COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A central Ohio man’s car was stolen from the John Glenn International Airport, the second time in two weeks that a car has been reported stolen from the airport’s parking garage.

Last week, a local woman’s car was stolen from the airport parking garage and later found totaled on the side of a road. Now, Darin Harvey is a victim of car theft.

Harvey returned from a vacation on Saturday and was expecting to drive home. He went to level 5 of the John Glenn parking garage where he had parked his Jeep Cherokee, only to find it was not there.

“I mean, they have cameras, they have license tag readers, I’m not sure that they’re maintained or work, that’s my one concern,” Harvey said. “I thought it was in a secure lot. I paid, you know, $23 a day premium. Obviously, I’ll Uber from now on but, yeah, I thought it was secure.”

Harvey filed a police report for his stolen Jeep Cherokee. It’s the second Jeep Cherokee stolen from the airport and both have been taken from the same parking level.

Harvey said the airport needs to do a better job making sure everyone’s vehicle is safe, and they should hold some responsibility for the thefts.

“Considering they make revenue on that garage, I mean, parking in an open parking lot, you’re taking a risk, but this is a secure garage that you pay to park in,” Harvey said.

According to the airport authority, the investigation remains ongoing and no security videos have been released.

“If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work,” Harvey said. “I mean, I don’t know what else to say about that other than I think they need to invest some money in those cameras, if anything, just to deter people from doing it.”

Harvey also notes that even though this is an inconvenient situation to process, he is grateful he can still get to work in another car, but he knows that may not be the case for everyone else.
